Story, Hoosier National Forest Advanced/Expert Meet

Story is a fabulous location; it has only a few good trails, is quite hilly, and has a real wilderness feel from its sections of beautiful open forest and shady valleys.  Our mappers are in the process of updating the map - contours are excellent but other features have been only been partially improved.   As a result, only advanced and expert courses are being offered at this meet.   The abilities to read contours on a map and in the terrain and to use a compass are needed for this meet.

Courses and lengths:

    short (brown) 4.2 km

    medium (green) 5.7 km

    long (red) 7.9 km

Training for intermediate-level orienteers will be available.

This start location at the S end of Kirk's Ford Road has limited parking.  Attendees are very strongly encouraged to car pool from the extra parking at Nebo Ridge mountain biking trailhead (further along Elkinsville Rd, on the left before the steep hill) and at the Story Inn.  When parking along Kirk's Ford Road, please hug one side of the road so that cars can get back out and so the resident at Carlin Lane (private) is not annoyed.  The side of Kirk's Ford Road may be soft so don't overestimate your car.  In the case of a significant rain event, the meet will be rescheduled/cancelled.
