12/10/16 - Story/Middle Fork
Story is a fabulous location; it has only a few good trails, is quite hilly, and has a real wilderness feel from its sections of beautiful open forest and shady valleys. The last ICO meet at this location was in 2009. To offer this meet, the original map file has been recovered, restored, and partially updated. Contours are excellent but other features have been only been partially improved. As a result, only advanced and expert courses are being offered at this meet. The starts will be from 11-12:30 (shortened window) from the S end of Kirks Ford Road.
Courses and lengths:
Experienced (orange) 4.9 km
Expert - short (brown) 4.1 km
medium (green) 5.4 km
long (red) 7.2 km
very long (blue) 8.9 km
In selecting your course, please do so appropriately. The red and blue courses are long and physical and require confidence in map-reading. Courses will close promptly at 3 pm. If you intend to start the blue, please arrive at 11.
Registration is electronic and in advance only; there are no day of registrations for this event.
This start location has limited parking. Attendees are very strongly encouraged to car pool. There is extra parking at Nebo Ridge mountain biking trailhead (further along Elkinsville Rd, on the left before the steep hill) and at the Story Inn. When parking along Kirks Ford Road, please hug one side of the road so that cars can get back out and so the resident at Carlin Lane (private) is not annoyed. The side of Kirks Ford Road may be soft so don't overestimate your car. In the case of a significant rain/snow event, the meet will be rescheduled.
Other items:
No beginner's clinic. Map pickup from 15 min before first start.
Volunteer requested for pickup.
Meet fees:
Online registration is available at the link above. For advance registration (noon EST Wednesday, December 7 firm), the meet fee is $5.00 per person/group for members of any OUSA-chartered club and $12.00 for non-members. The fee includes one set of map and one clue sheet. SI fingersticks may be rented for $2. Remember, this fee is only per group. So if your family completes a course together you pay ONE fee, not a fee for every member of your family! For small groups, additional map sets may be purchased for $2.00 each.
