Bradford Woods is an auxiliary enterprise of Indiana University and is part of the academic mission of the School of Public Health and is a unit of the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies. As a key component of the University family, Bradford Woods seeks to promote and further the mission of the University through the teaching, service, programs, and research Bradford Woods provides. Bradford Woods provides summer camps, environmental education, weekend retreats, recreation therapy, teambuilding, and challenge courses in central Indiana.
Bradford Woods approached Indiana Crossroads Orienteering in 2005 with a proposal to create an orienteering map of a portion of their property. The goal was two-fold: To enhance their own teambuilding and navigational curriculum with a much better terrain map than they had previously been using, and to increase awareness of their mission and programs by bringing public orienteering meets to Bradford Woods. The resulting map is one of the most interesting maps in ICO's catalog, featuring unique terrain detail caused by sand mining in the area in the late 1800's.
