2010 Hoosier Outdoor Experience- Volunteers Needed!

Post date: Sep 10, 2010 12:10:9 AM

ICO needs its members next weekend!  Please consider giving a few hours of your time to share our sport at the DNR’s Hoosier Outdoor Experience at Fort Benjamin Harrison.  It will be a county fair-like atmosphere with lots and lots of outdoor groups and activities to try and it’s all FREE!

Who is qualified to volunteer at the ICO booth?  Anyone who has participated in ICO meets in the past.  Most people stopping at the booth just want to hear what orienteering is and what a meet is like.

Who will enjoy this event?  Families and individuals looking to try new activities in a safe and friendly environment... and it’s FREE!  Invite everyone!

Times for the HOEX are 8AM-6PM Saturday and Sunday, the 18th and 19th of September

To ATTEND:

There is no cost, but please register online

This helps the DNR know how many to expect and also helps them receive funding.

To VOLUNTEER:

1.  Please email your availability (how many hours you’d like to volunteer and which times you are available, along with your preference to run the mini o meet or be a friendly face at the booth) to info@indyo.org ASAP.

2.  Then, sign up with the DNR so they can do a background check and will let you volunteer.

Information for the day of the event:

Parking- Activity Providers and their volunteers park for free at the Defense Finance Center on southeast corner of 56th and Post Road... nothing special needed for parking.

Getting to the booth- Ride same free busses into park as the visitors.  Please allow at least 30 minutes to park, sign in, and ride to the booth!

Check in as activity provider volunteers at Welcome Center (the busses will let everybody off at this same spot) look for volunteer check-in banner.

From there, the shuttles will take you right to the area where our booth is.  We’ll be at the bottom of the sledding hill, across from the Reddick Shelter House, same as last year.

Attire-  If you have an ICO tshirt, please wear it!  Please bring your compass and wear it around your neck to help people identify who is working at the booth.  We’ll also ask you to wear a nametag and a smile.  This is a PR event for us, after all!

The event will go on rain or shine!  Be prepared to deal with whatever the weather might throw at us.  Bring a chair, snacks, money for food from the vendors.  ICO will provide a few snacks and cold water.
